Keeping up-to-date with the latest beauty trends is essential when it comes to putting together the beauty pages in the UK’s best-selling monthly bridal magazine (and it’s a job I take very seriously).
Each month I test brand new beauty products to find you the best ones for your bridal beauty bag. This month I'm trying out the new bubble mask trend, a cult-classic from Elizabeth Arden and teeth whitening powder.
If you haven’t seen the hilarious bubble mask videos that are all over Instagram and YouTube, treat yourself to a little search (as I’ve not been brave enough to include one of mine in action!). The masks contain a magic formula that oxygenates and expands while on your skin to transform your face into what only can be described as a huge grey marshmallow/cloud, but as well as the obvious fun-factor, these clever masks from Korea are packed with a cocktail of ingredients to detoxify and clear the skin.
This Janjira version one bubbled away on my skin as promised – the active ingredients do tingle a little, but nothing more alarming than that. After just one application, I did actually notice my skin becoming clearer and more radiant (I even braved a no-foundation day at the office!). I will definitely be bubble-masking again – not only for brilliant Snapchat stories of my ever-expanding face, but also for the amazing results. Win, win!
I can’t believe I’ve reached the grand old age of 26 and I’ve written the beauty section of Perfect Wedding for three whole years without trying the cult classic that is the Elizabeth Arden Eight Hour Cream! It’s known in the beauty world as a travel essential, so there’s now a limited-edition version with ultra-cute travel-themed packaging that will look adorable in your honeymoon carry-on.
At first I was surprised at the colour and texture of the cream – I was expecting your average soft, white skin cream, but the product is better described as a gel and it comes in a nude/pinky shade. Nonetheless, not deterred by the consistency I began to use the product on my lips, nails and even my feet (it works wonders on dry heels!). As it’s quite thick, the product does take a while to sink in, but the ultra-rich formula would be ideal if you suffer from really dry skin.
Do I want whiter teeth? Of course. Do I fancy rubbing charcoal into them? Not so much… but, taking one for the team I decided to give this latest trend a go.
I used the powder twice-a-day after brushing my teeth. I’m not going to lie, it does feel rather counter-intuitive to put grey, gritty powder into your freshly-cleaned mouth. However, a quick brush round (1-2 mins) and a thorough rinse out and my month was left feeling surprisingly clean and my teeth felt very polished.
As the days went on, I began to notice my teeth looking a little whiter – I’m hardly sporting a Simon Cowell smile, but my pearly whites are shining a little brighter these days.
